During a trip to India, Charmy Patel ’13 was struck by the extreme poverty and inspired by seeing first-hand the correlation between poverty, social class, and poor health. Today Charmy is determined to work in a community setting where she can help patients who are immigrants, of minority backgrounds, or those who are at a disadvantage when it comes to navigating the healthcare system. “Being a respectful, culturally competent nurse will allow me to treat patients with the best care,” says Patel.
The Bring Diversity to Nursing program has graduated 38 diverse nurses who now provide care in local community settings as well as in world renowned hospitals such as the Mayo Clinic. Our graduates are culturally diverse, often bilingual and are ready to serve a diverse patient population.
Your donation will allow us to continue to offer resources including scholarships, loan of laptops and reference books, tutoring, and mentoring. Your gift will help future diverse students succeed in nursing school and become nurses ready to provide needed care to an increasingly diverse population.
